Trailblazing Panelists Offer Valuable Career Advice at Northwestern Mutual – Chicago Entrepreneurialism Event

Northwestern Mutual - Chicago hosted an insightful conversation about entrepreneurialism in the African-American community. The female entrepreneurs discussed the forces that inspired them to turn their passions and ideas into successful businesses, the challenges that come with starting a business from scratch and benefits of self-employment.

The panelists included: Autumn Merritt, fashionista, and co-founder of Sir and Madame Boutique in Hyde Park, Lauren Ash, founder and executive director of wellness and lifestyle brand Black Girl in Om, and Andrea Williams, Northwestern Mutual - Chicago Financial Advisor.

Chicago Tribune Names Northwestern Mutual - Chicago a Top Workplace, Again

A strong belief in where the organization is headed, how it’s going to get there and the feeling that everyone is in it together, all contributed to Northwestern Mutual – Chicago being named a Chicago Tribune Top Workplace for 2017. This is the second year we achieved this honor, based on an engagement survey of our financial professionals. 


Northwestern Mutual–Chicago Fosters Friendly Competition at Rosemont Office Olympics

Competitive spirits were on display, high fives shared and awards presented at the annual day of fun.  Under the direction of Molly Martin, director of recruitment and selection, and the unofficial chief fun officer, the day’s events included: a potato sack and cotton ball races, water balloon toss, puzzles and trivia.

When the competition concluded, it was Financial Advisor Bryce Simon and his financial representative assistant Brianna Wojnowski who won the coveted gold medal.



Northwestern Mutual – Chicago Program Develops Purpose Driven Leaders

Finding purpose in work is driving today’s young professionals, and our new innovative career development program is leading the way. We kicked off our 1872 Leadership Development Program at Camp Greyfield, a highly-respected learning and training center. From team building to personal growth the experience drives purpose with learning, thinking and doing.

Northwestern Mutual – Chicago High-Impact Internship Provides Professional and Personal Development

For students participating in Northwestern Mutual – Chicago’s top-rated internship program, a trip to Milwaukee to attend the company’s annual meeting was an experience not to be missed. The multi-day event featured company leaders, industry experts and motivational speakers who provide advice and inspiration on a series of topics ranging from finding your true passion in life to building a successful financial planning practice.

Another not to miss is the College Awards Show celebrating the 50th anniversary of the internship program and a private concert with Grammy award-winning pop icon Christina Aguilera at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

Northwestern Mutual - Chicago Celebrates Bring Your Child to Work Day

As a company that helps provide financial security, we know the importance of teaching children about money and planning for tomorrow but equally important is teaching them to be compassionate and charitable.

The day’s agenda included an introduction to Penny the Pig, a four-slotted piggy bank that provides choices for saving, spending, investing and donating. The kids turned their focus to community service and created encouraging and uplifting hand-made cards to share with Cards for Hospitalized Kids.  Of course, treats were part of the day too!


Northwestern Mutual - Chicago Golfers Swing for a Cause

Two rain delays didn't dampen the spirits of golfers and a team of volunteers at our third annual golf outing.  The charitable event raised more than $40,000 for Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation.

We're grateful to our financial professionals who played in the tournament, our generous sponsors, and associates who planned and volunteered the day of the event.  The money raised will fund 800 hours of research into new treatments and cures for childhood cancer.



Annual Internship Reception Brings Together Students, Parents and Campus Professionals 

The summer brought an opportunity to bring together students, parents and professionals from the campus community to visit our downtown Chicago office and hear first-hand about the internship experience.

This year included a celebration of several milestones including the 160th anniversary of Northwestern Mutual;145th anniversary of our Chicago-based office and 50th anniversary of our college intern program.

Northwestern Mutual – Chicago Presents Athletic Leadership Award

A sprinter on the Concordia University track team, Chelsee Wilson's sports leadership, academic excellence and community service led her to receive the Northwestern Mutual - Chicago Athletic Leadership Award.  In recognition of her achievements, we donated $500 to the Max Schewitz Foundation which supports education, prevention and research of sudden cardiac death in young people.


Helping Hands Make Care Packages for Hospitalized Kids

There were a lot of helping hands, both big and small when Northwestern Mutual – Chicago transformed its office into a production line assembling goodie bags for hospitalized children. Tables filled with books, toys, puzzles and other goodies were overflowing as volunteers packed more than 70 bags that were delivered to the Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s Hospital.

The volunteers also made personalized cards with uplifting messages for Cards for Hospitalized Kids and helped raise funds for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. Learn more about our philanthropic initiatives.

Northwestern Mutual - Chicago Launches Leadership Development Program


To build on our history of innovation and excellence, we’re excited to launch 1872, a leadership development program for emerging advisors.  While most programs focus on developing management skills, 1872 will hone in on skills designed to help participants lead themselves, lead a team and lead others. Read more in this Chicago Tribune story.






Northwestern Mutual - Chicago Earns National Recognition with Financial Security Award

When it comes to leading, Northwestern Mutual-Chicago’s Client Relations Department did it again. The team was awarded the national Northwestern Mutual Financial Security Award for the second year in the row.  The award recognizes the top-performing client relations department among the more than 330 Northwestern Mutual offices nationwide.

Chicago Tribune Names Northwestern Mutual - Chicago a Top Workplace

Northwestern Mutual - Chicago, and our Rosemont district office, has been awarded a 2016 Top Workplaces honor by the Chicago Tribune. The Top Workplaces lists are based solely on the results of a firm-wide engagement survey administered by Workplace Dynamics, LLC.  Aspects of the workplace culture that were measured included alignment, execution and connection, just to name a few.

Congratulations to our Rosemont Wealth Management Advisor and Managing Director Tom Canale who achieved membership into the prestigious Northwestern Mutual Forum. Tom and his team were recognized for their commitment to helping clients plan for and achieve financial security.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Receives a $25,000 Grant

A combination of volunteerism, fundraising, brand and cause awareness led to Northwestern Mutual - Chicago being recognized by the Northwestern Mutual Foundation with the 2016 Childhood Cancer Impact Award.  In honor of the recognition, a $25,000 donation was made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. We are thrilled to have our Rosemont financial advisor Jack Wambach (second from right) attend the presentation.



Richard A. Green

College Unit Captain and Financial Advisor

Appointed a College Unit Captain in 2017, Richie takes on a leadership role with the internship program and will assist in the training, development and mentoring of college financial representatives.  He will continue to build relationships with his clients while also building relationships with campus professionals and prospective intern candidates on local college campuses.
