Alison Fyhrie
Financial Advisor

As a former actress, Alison Fyhrie landed leading roles.  But as a financial advisor with Northwestern Mutual – Chicago she has captured the best role: empowering women to achieve financial security.

Following eight years as a professional actress in New York City, the Chicago native returned home and enrolled in the Northwestern School of Professional Studies Certified Financial Planner program. Enthralled with the world of financial planning she was eager to learn and help others.  It was here that she met Tom Canale, Managing Director of the Rosemont District office and was introduced to the career opportunity.

Making a Difference

This career is so much bigger than yourself. The work we do as financial representatives makes a difference and that leads to fulfillment on a personal and professional level.

I am passionate about transforming the American family dynamic by shattering the silence and taboo around money and creating a healthy dialogue about finance between the generations.

I sincerely enjoy meeting with my clients listening to their life’s stories and helping them develop a financial plan.  It’s also rewarding to speak to different groups and educating them on topics from budgeting to retirement planning.

Making the Career Change

As you plan a career move, it’s in taking a risk that you can grow.   Since joining the firm in 2014, I have been supported by a team that believes in me and has helped me believe in myself through active mentoring, coaching, training and development.

This career is not easy, but it is incredibly fulfilling.  You learn so much about yourself and being a part of a team that is inclusive and diverse.

Career Rewards

For the first time in my life, I feel an incredible sense of purpose.   As a financial advisor, I enlighten and empower women to move to action and elevate their mindset and seize control of their financial destiny.

Career Advice

As a wife and mother, achieving work-life balance is important to me.  To do that you need to be more than 100% committed to building your practice.

Make certain to be a continuous learner.  Take advantage of the learning and development opportunities the firm provides.  I have earned the series 6 and 63 securities license and begun a course of study for a professional designation.

In 2017 I was invited to join the firm’s 1872 Leadership Development Program which has helped me develop a compelling vision and mission and understanding of my leadership “WHY.”

The firm invests in their people, but it’s up to you to embrace it and challenge yourself to grow both personally and professionally.
